The Wheel World magazine reported that in a track meeting at Enfield Cricket Club in 1882, Tom Ward a crack Manchester rider from Sale "ran second in the mile handicap, and first in the two miles, and a fortnight later a sudden accession of form pulled him through both the handicaps at Wigan from the scratch mark, and secured him a couple of seconds at Beeston, whilst in the same week, two more prizes were carried off at the meeting of the Burnley Cricket Club."
The Herbert Synyer records show a track event at the Enfield Cricket Club Sports meeting on June 16th 1888, Synyer records results for the 1 mile handicap, 4 laps and 2 miles handicap. He notes that it was a grass track and also records the same event one year later on 1st June 1889.
